Peter was a farmer, always lived on the farm on which he was born.
Peter & Elizabeth were members of the Lutheran Church from their youth. they were blessed with 4 children, all of them were born near Somerset, Perry Co., OH, and were baptized in infancy. In later years, they were instructed & confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Went to Lancaster, OH., when young where he read medicine with Dr. G. W. Beerstler & graduated in 1846 at Baltimore University, Baltimore, MD. He practiced there for a short time in the Marine Hospital at Baltimore & then returned to Lancaster, OH.
After his marriage, he moved to Somerset, Perry Co., OH, where he practiced his profession for a number of years & again returned to Lancaster. In 1874, he moved with his family to Columbus, OH. & practiced medicine.
They had 9 children.

In his younger days, Bernard owned a grist mill near New Reading, Perry Co., OH & was a miller. Later, he gave the mill into the hands of his son, Joel & was engaged in farming until his death.
Bernard & Mary Elizabeth lived near New Reading, Reading Twp., Perry Co., OH.
Bernard & Catharine were members of the Lutheran Church; so also their children were instructed & confirmed members of the same church as they arrived at the proper age. They were blessed with 9 children.
