Fredrick was a carpenter. In the spring of 1799, he, along with David Cumming, entered into a contract with John Overton to build a home for Overton. This home, called Traveller's Rest, has been restored and is open to the public. The contract specified the carpenter would be paid by title to a 320 acre tract on Stone's River owned by Overton, at the rate of two dollars per acre. Fredrick Binkley received title to this land on 1 Jun 1801. David Cumming was bondsman on the marriage of Fredrick to Adeline. On the bond, Fredrick signed his name Pinkley. The family graveyard of Fredrick Binkley was originally on a hill near his home. During construction of J. Percy Priest Dam, the graves were moved to Mt. Juliet Cemetery.
