Dad, (George Allan) and his brother Lloyd were great friends as well as brothers. While in high school, they both shared a car, and were known as those "Allan" boys, known for womanizing
Dad married my Mother on November 15, 1942. Dad's mother was against it, I don't know why....but I'm told she didn't like my Mom too much. Mom and Dad moved to Florida against the family advice. He had a good job as a carpenter in Keene, NH, but wanted something different. After that he became known as the "black sheep" of the family.
Two years later, I was born, (Kay Francis Allan) aka: Cathy, while Dad was in the Aleutian Islands with the Army Corp. of Engineers in June, of 1944. He had applied for a job as a dozer operator, at $1.70 and hour, but had never operated a dozer before in his life. When I was born, Mom sent a telegram to him and asked what to name me. He wanted to name me Catherine. But, somehow, between Florida and the Aleutians, the return telegram arrived with only one letter on it....."K" Mom assumed he wanted to name me after my Godmother, Kay. About 6 months later, my Daddy arrived home in Florida and upon seeing me for the first time said, "and how's my little Cathy?" Mom said....."Who?" So, that's how I got two first names.
After trying to find work in Florida unsuccessfully, we moved to the Bahamas Islands, to Eluthra....Dad got a job in a slaughter house as the "main man." He had to wear all white, stand on a box, overseeing all the black people doing their work. Mom got a job working for the owner, Mr. Leve, as his secretary. I was small, and needed attention, so while my parents were at work, I was looked after by a black nanny and her daughter, Salome.
We moved from the Bahamas to California, traveling for 5 days in our car, pulling a trailer behind with all our worldly possessions in it. We settled in East Los Angeles, and eventually found a home to rent in Montebello. I went to High School in Brea, CA. About that time Dad started his own business, as a precision grinder. His reputation was in high regard as the best.
In 1968 Mom and Dad moved to San Diego County, to Bonsall. The business, having grown, also moved: Allan Grinding, Inc.

I am in possession of the newspaper obit. for Harry Leonard Wainwright:
"Keene--Harry L. Wainwright, 68, of Whitcomb Mills Road, a retired woolen mill worker, died yesterday in Elliot Community Hospital. He was born in Salisbury, VT, and lived here all his adult life. Before retiring four years ago, he worked at the Homestead Woolen Mill, West Swanzey. He was a World War II veteran. The family includes his wife, Mrs. Carrie (Nelson) WAINWRIGHT, a son, Harry WAINWRIGHT Jr., a stepson, George WAINWRIGHT of Charlestown, a daughter, Mrs. George (Arlene) Allan of Santa Ana, CA, and a sister, Mrs. Vera Steele of East Alstead. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon in the Fletcher Funeral Home by Rev. Burton Robbins, retired Methodist minister. "

Fred Justin Wainwright was the Uncle of Harry Leonard. Alma Cashmere married Harry L. Wainwright.....then divorced him and married (7/25/1932) Fred Justin Wainwright, (8 years Harry's senior). Fred and Alma were never divorced, but separated in 1947.
After Fred died, Alma tried and was successful in gaining Fred's Social Security benefits.

NOTE: I think the obit incorrectly stated Harry's age at death, because my mother talked about his second marriage to Carrie Nelson and the birth of their son, Harry Jr., while living in Bonsall around 1969.
