10 August 1662 - The following apprenticed in Bristol : Francis Jenings to Richard Shipway, 3 years New England. From - "The Complete Book of Emigrants, 1607 - 1776." Peter Wilson Coldham, Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, Md.

Spelling was changed from Jennings. There are several variations of the Jenness beginnings. Jenyns has been chosen because in the earliest, and the one used always by Dutchess Sarah's mother, Mrs. Richard Jenyns. It is also the spelling used today by collateral decendents of the family. In "Letters of sarah, dutchess of Marlborough, at Madresfield Court," she writes to her kinsman, Mr. Jennens. The name is spelled throughout these letters. The kinship has never been exactly determined. Sarah Jennings, born 5-29-1660 at Sandridge, Herefordshire, England and died 10-18-1744 in London, England. She was brought up by the household of Duke of York (future King James II), as an attendant of the Duke's younger sister Ann. Sarah Jennings married John Churchill.

In the "Queen Anne War," with Louis XIV of Franch, which begain in 1700, England's Duck of Marlborough was one of two greatest generals of that time.

In the "History of Hampton", page 766, Francis Jenness' name is written ffrancis Jenins. He was born about 1634 and died j8j-27-1716. also "This name if often written Jennings on the early records, suggesting that Jenness and jennings, now considered distinct names, may have been originally one. It is not know when Francis Jenness, the ancester of the Hampton families came or when he emigrated. There was a Richard Jennings born in Ipswich, England, who came to this country in 1636 and returned in 1639. Possibly Francis was from the same place, possi bly his son.
More in physical files of Katie Moore of Kansas married to Gilbert Moore, grandson of Francis Roy Jenness, son of Myron Jenness, son of James Jenness, Jr., etc.
