Servatius the Elder, who came from Raeren (today, Belguim) to Grenzhausen in the Westerwald as a master potter around/before 1600. This emerges from files that were in the archives in Berleburg, but were hastily moved to the archives in Laasphe.
The name CORCILIUS only appeared in Grenzhausen in the Westerwald after 1600
developed. Previously in Raeren the name was CARSILIUS. And SERVATIUS is
the baptismal name, he was always called VAS, a short form of Servatius.
Servatius CARSILIUS was a master potter and lived with his family
In 1603 and 1607 from NEUDORF near Raeren to GRENZHAUSEN and shopped there
A house. He had 5 or 6 sons with these names: Servatius junior, Johannes,
Tillman, Balthasar, Melchior and probably Martin. After 1615 moved
Servatius with part of his family to RANSBACH. The two sons
Johannes and Tillmann stayed in Grenzhausen and started families there.
Servatius junior came back to Grenzhausen from Ransbach in 1618 and got married
there. The other three sons Balthasar, Melchior and Martin remained
Ransbach and got married there.
Peter or Petrus was a son of Balthasar or Melchior and was probably around
Born in Ransbach in 1625/30. Peter moved to Mogendorf around 1655
married a Catharina there. How many children you had is not exact
known. In addition to his son Georg, who emigrated to New York City in 1722,
they had several daughters. A daughter was LUDOVICA, born Johann in 1703
Peter OBERBACH married. Her first name varies in the church register
noted: Louisa, Lucia. - Peter Corcilius died on December 26, 1695.
The baptismal name SERVATIUS appears frequently in Grenzhausen and Ransbach
grandchildren of Servatius senior. Since the church records of Grenzhausen and
But Ransbach only started around/from 1700, it is difficult and hardly possible
to assign these children to their fathers. Only the death dates are here
and can be found in the church records.
From what I have been able to determine so far, Servatius senior's parents died
in Neudorf/Raeren before 1573.
