Individual Note: Military in Civil War as a private of Captain Martin Barrenger's Company K, 5th regiment of the Ohio Infantry.
Sharon Diethrich found record of Edward Corcilius in Pension Records.
Edward Lewis enlisted in the Civil war. He was living in Kentucky at the time, but enlisted in the Union army at Cincinnati, OH July 29, 1864. He served as a private of Captain Martin Barrenger's Company K, 5th regiment of the Ohio Infantry, and was discharged on the 26th of July 1865, and returned to his home in Newport, KY.
According to the deposition of Caroline Fahlsing, sister to our great grandmother Rosena Niemeyer Corcilius, witnessed and notarized in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana, "Edward was entirely changed, sick and unable to work and so, support his large family, hand has lost his reason."
Edward Lewis died October 12, 1882 from exposure. He wandered away from his home in Brisbin, PA and was found dead in the Allegheny Mountains, Clearfield, PA.
Great Grandmother Rosena filed for pension assistance May 31, 1887 from Central City, NE. She had to prove her marriage to Edward Lewis through testimonies, because her marriage certificate was burned May 2, 1884 along with all her household effects. Her final pension payment of $8.00 was on July 4, 1899 due to her death July 24, 1899. she lived to the age of 66 years, 8 months and 24 days.
