Individual Note: James was in St. Mary's Co, Maryland October 12, 1663 with cousins Margaret and Mary Brent. In 1669 he was in Stafford Co, Virginia and was called son of Thomas Clifton, Esq. of Westby and Clifton, Lancashire, England. The land of James Clifton and George Brent joined and was near the present city of Alexandria, Va. James Clifton returned to his home in England before 1679 and died there in 1714. His will, dated January 6, 1714 leaves his estate to nephew Thomas Clifton, daughter Catherine and nephew George.
